BS 8468-6.1 specifies requirements for compressed air line breathing apparatus with positive pressure demand valve for use with a full face mask as a respirnory protective device intended to be used during firefighting. rescue, evacuation, escape, hazard containment and decontamination, and similar activities by emergency first responders (e.g. fire, ambulance, police. and assoca.uted civilian agencies and workers) in areas containing and contaminated by chemical, bioloWcal. radiological and nudear (CR RN) agenLs
This British Standard is applicable to Type CBRN3 devices, which provide an enhanced level of resistance to liquid and gaseous chemical agent permeation and penetration.
This British Standard contains requirements for testing and marking.
Requirements for methods of and criteria for decontamination of respiratory protective devices (RPD) are not specified in this British Standard.
NOTE Compressed oar fine breathing apparatus conforming so this Bratssh Standard might be suitable for use an ituation other than (hose anwitvin.q the specific CRRN epents ideviufied in the standard.

3.3 radiological agent
substance that emits ionizing radiation and that could be disseminated to cause harm
3.4 nuclear agent
radioactive matter resulting from a nuclear explosion or accidental release from a nuclear facility 3.5 emergency breathing facility (EBE)
facility, as specified by the manufacturer, which comes into operation when the normally operating respiratory protective device is not functioning and provides an adequate level of protection fora period to enable the device wearer to exit the work area, unassisted, to a place of safety
3.6 decontamination
physical and/or chemical process of removing as much contamination as possible from people or equipment
3.7 rapid intervention team (RIT) fitting
system that allows emergency replemshment of breathing air to the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCHA) of disabled or entrapped fire or emergency personnel
4 Requirements
4.1 General
The apparatus shall be positive pressure equipment conforming to:
a) BSEN145931;
b) the Inward leakage specified In 4.4; and
c) the chemical agent permeation resistance and penetration specified in £5.
Where the apparatus has been designed to he used at temperatures outside those specified in uS EN 14593.1, the manufacturer shall have tested and marked the product appropriately.
