13 Float Crush Test
13.1 A hollow float shall withstand, without distortion, an external pressure of 750 psig (5.2 MPa).
13.2 Two samples of a hollow float are to be subjected to this test. Each float is to be inserted into a vesse’ of appropriate size and strength, that may be constructed of pipe and ppe fittings. The vessel is to be connected to a source of hydrostatic pressure. A pressure gauge having a range as described in 9.3, is to be installed In the pressure supply piping. The vessel is to be completely filled with bquld to expel all air, The pressure is then to be slowly increased to 750 psig (5.2 MPa),
13.3 Subsequent to the test, the floats are to be removed from the vessel and examined for evidence of distortion.
14 10-Day Moist Ammonia-Air Stress Cracking Test
14.1 After being subjected to the conditions described in 14.2 — 14,4. a brass part containing more than 15 percent zinc shall show no evidence of cracking when examined using 25X magnification.
14.2 Each test sample is to be subjected to the physical stresses normally imposed on or within a part as a result of assembly with other components. Such stresses are to be applied to the sample prior to and maintained during the test. Samples with threads, intended to be used for installing the product in the held are to have the threads engaged and tightened to the torque specified in Table 14.1. Teflon tape or pipe compound are not to be used on the threads.
14.3 Three samples are to be degreased and then continuously exposed in a set position for ten days to a moist ammonia-air mixture maintained in a glass chamber approximately 305 by 305 by 305 mm (12 by 12 by 12 Inch) having a glass cover.
14.4 Approximately 600 ml of aqueous ammonia having a specific gravity of 0.94 is to be maintained at the bottom of the glass chamber below the samples. The samples are to be positioned 1-112 inches (38.1 mm) above the aqueous ammonia solution and supported by an inert tray. The moist ammonia-air mixture in the chamber is to be maintained at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature of 34 ± 2°C.
15.2 Gauges that require the release of controlled fluid to atmosphere shall be tested and shown to be free from leakage at all loints, including the seat. using aerostatic pressure at the rated service pressure. In heu of testing with aerostatic pressure, leakage tests are permitted to be conducted with a hydrostatic pressure at 1-1/2 times the rated service pressure.
MARKING
16 General
16.1 A gauge shall be marked with the following information:
a) The manufacturer’s or vendors identification.
b) A distinctive catalog number or equivalent identification to specifically identity the product.
C) The fluid service, or services, for which the gauge is designed. such as 1PG’ for liquefied petroleum gas, and/or A-A or ‘NH3 for anhydrous ammonia.
16.2 The fluid service martsing specified in 16,1(c) Is not required if the manufacturer’s or vendor’s catalog and the catalog designation marked on the product individuates the service for which the gauge is intended.
16.3 The dials of magnetic-float type and rotary-tube type gauges shall be marked as specified in 4.6 — 4.10 and 4.13.
16.4 When a gauging device does not have the complete temperature range as required by 4.6 for LPGas use or 4.7 for anhydrous ammonia use, the dial shall include a cautionary statement that the container shall not be filled beyond the temperature range provided on the cal.
16.5 When a gauging device is for use on containers greater than 1200 gallons and does not include the temperature filling correction lactors, the dial shall be marked that the gauge shall not be used for filling.
16.6 Markings shall be legible and of a permanent nature. as attorded by stamping or molding in a casting, or by a metal or decalcomania transfer nameplate.
Exception: The maf*ing required by 16.8 is not required to be permanent.
16.7 When a manufacturer produces gauges at more than one factory, each gauge shall have a distinctive marking to identify it as the product of a particular factory.
