4.3 Devices for positioning the test piece
This shall conform to Iso 1167:1996, subclause 6.3.
4.4 Pressurizing equipment
This shall conform to ISO 1167:1996, subclause 6.4.
4.5 Pressure measurement devices
This shall conform to ISO 1167:1996, subclause 6.5.
4.6 Thermometer or equivalent
This shall conform to ISO 1167:1996, subclause 6.6.
4.7 Timer
This shall conform to ISO 1167:1996, subclause 6.7.
4.8 Equipment for measuring dimensions
This shall conform to ISO 1167:1996, subclauses 6.8 and 6.9.
5 Test pieces
5.1 Sampling
Carry out sampling as specified in the applicable product standard.
5.2 Preparation of test pieces
Test pieces shall comprise a complete fitting, valve body or other pressure-bearing component, of a given type and nominal diameter, together with its connectors and, where applicable, held by a frame (see 4.1.3.2).
5.3 Number of test pieces
The number of test pieces shall be as specified in the applicable product standard. NOTE It is recommended that at least three test pieces be tested.
6 Calibration of the apparatus
Carry out calibration in conformity with ISO 1167:1996, subclause 8.1.
7 Conditioning
Carry out conditioning in conformity with ISO 1167:1996, clause 9.
For joints made using solvent adhesive, leave the test piece to dry at room temperature for at least 10 days.
NOTE The manufacturer’s product information for the use of the adhesive should be taken into consideration.
9 Test requirement
A fitting shall be regarded as passing the test it it displays no leakage, rupture or any other cracking under the specified test conditions.
If there is any leakage outside the fitting itself (failure of the seal or bursting of the pipe), or any failure associated with grooves machined as specified in 4.1.2.2 and indicative of inappropriate groove design and/or machining conditions, repeat the test, if necessary using other components, in such a way that the assembly remains watertight for the minimum period required for the test.
If one of the test pieces from the specified number (see 5.3) does not pass the test, repeat the test on a second set comprising the same number of test pieces.
If one of the test pieces from the second set does not pass the test, regard the batch as not conforming to this —‘ternational Standard.
10 Test report
The test report shall include the following information:
a) a reference to this International Standard;
b) all details necessary for complete identification of the sample tested;
c) the nominal size, nominal pressure and type of each fitting;
d) the nominal dimensions and nominal pressure of the pipes, and the length I in the case of a bonded joint;
e) the test temperature and accuracy of its measurement;
f) the test pressure and accuracy of its measurement;
, the nature of the test medium used, i.e. TMwater-in-water” or “water-in-air”;
h) the type of pressure-tight device used;
i) the number of test pieces tested;
j) the drying time (for bonded joints) and duration of conditioning;
k) the duration of the test;
l) in the event of rupture, the type of rupture;
m) any factors which have affected the results, such as any incident or any operational detail not specified in this International Standard;
n) the date of the test.
A.1 General
It is recommended that, at the temperature and pressure given below, the test time for fittings, valves and other piping system components made of unpiasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U), chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-C), acrylonitnie-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylester (ASA) is not less than the minimum test time of 1 h, the test being carried out as specified in this International Standard.
NOTE If small leaks are observed from a sealing ring, it is recommended that the test specimen not be rejected as long as the internal pressure is maintained.
A.2 Basic specifications and test parameters
The conditions used to determine the hydrostatic-pressure performance are:
— temperature: 20 °C;
— applied pressure: for PVC-U, 4,2 times the nominal pressure of the fitting, valve or component, for PVC-C, 3,4 times the nominal pressure,
for ABS. 3,5 times the nominal pressure;
— minimum time: I h.
