IEEE 1680.1-2018 pdf download.IEEE Standard for Environmental and Social Responsibility Assessment of Computers and Displays.
acoustic component: An individual part or combination of parts that are used in the creation, transmission, or detection of sound.
bio based: A material that is composed, in whole or in significant part, of’ biological materials or renewable agricultural (including plant, animal, and marine materials) or forestry materials.
biodegradable plastic: A degradable plastic in which the degradation results from the action of naturally- occurring micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi, and algae. (Adapted from ASTM D883-12).
NOTE-—For the purpose of this standard, biodegradable plastics include compostable plastics, which may be labeled with ASTM D6400 or other regional markings.
bulk packaging: Single primary package used to ship more than one product.
conformance assurance process: Process used by the manufacturer to manage compliance of the product to a restricted substance requirement. The process includes:
a) A description of how suppliers, materials, parts, and/or subassemblies risk factors are evaluated and allocated.
b) The utilization of risk rating (or high-risk status) to determine what evidence is required for suppliers, materials, parts, and/or subassemblies, as determined to be applicable by the manufacturer.
c) The collection and evaluation of the evidence determined necessary for applicability, quality and accuracy, and associated action taken for a negative result.
d) A procedure to refresh the evidence as appropriate based on the manufacturer’s evaluation of risk.
certification: The provision by an independent body of written assurance (a certificate) that the product, service or system in question meets specific requirements.34
commonly available tool: A tool which is publicly available for purchase by any individual or business without restriction.
NOTE—Suction devices to remoe display panels are considered a commonly available tool. computer: A device which performs logical operations and processes data.
NOTE—For the purposes of this standard, computers include both stationary and portable units, including desktop computers, integrated desktop computers, notebook computers, slates/tablets, portable all-in-one computers. small- scale servers, thin clients, and work stations. Although computers are capable of using input devices and displays. such devices are not required to be included with the computer upon shipment. Computers are composed of, at a minimum:
(a) a central processing unit (CPU) to perform operations (if no Cpu is present, then the device must function as a client gateway to a server that acts as a computational CPu): (b) user input devices, such as a keyboard, mouse, or touch pad: and (c) an integrated display screen, and/or the ability to support an external display screen to output information.35
conflict-affected and high-risk areas: Areas identified by the presence of armed conflict, widespread violence or other risks of harm to people. Armed conflict may take a variety of forms, such as a conflict of international or non-international character, which may involve two or more states, or may consist of wars of liberation, or insurgencies, civil wars, etc. High-risk areas may include areas of political instability or repression, institutional weakness, insecurity, collapse of civil infrastructure and widespread violence. Such areas are often characterized by widespread human rights abuses and violations of national or international law.
conflict minerals: (i) Columbite-tantalite (coltan), cassiterite, gold, wolfraniite, or their derivatives (presently tantalum, tin, and tungsten); or (ii) any other mineral or its derivatives determined by the United States Secretary of State to be financing conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (the ‘DRC”) or an adjoining country.
connector: An electrical or mechanical coupling device employed to connect one element with those of another element.
corporate criterion: A set of requirements that is applicable to a program or an offering of the manufacturer in general and is not exclusive to the product declared to conform to the standard.
