5.14 ENDOCRINE DISRUPTOR — An exogenous substance or mixture that alters function(s) of the endocrine system and consequently causes adverse health effects in an intact organism, or its progeny, or lsub)populations. Candidate endocrine disruptors are listed in Appendix 1 of ‘Towards the Establishment of a Priority List of Substances for Further Evaluation of Their Role in Endocrine Disruption’ prepared for the European Union.
5,15 FLUORESCENT BRIGHTENING DYES — Dyes that fluoresce ultraviolet into visible ligflt thereby making carpet or upholstery fibres appear brighter in sunlight or other light composed of ultraviolet wavelengths. These dyes are associated with yellowing of carpets over time.
5.16 FLUORINATED SURFACTANTS — Wetting agents containing fluorine atoms. Fluorinated surfactants may be used to reduce resoiling and provide protectorant’ repellency attributes to cleaners.
5.17 INStITUTION — Office, school, hospital. retail store, and other commercial or public workplace setting where, generally, professional cleaning companies (e.g.. janitorial services), provide floor care.
5.18 INTERNATIONAL AGENCY FOR RESEARCH ON CANCER (IARC) — An organization which lists known and suspected carcinogens.
5.19 PHOSPHOROUS BASED DETERGENT BUILDERS — Phosphorous containing chemicals (e.g.. sodium tripolyphosphate and trisodium phosphate) used to maintain a high solution p1-I. bind metal ions and emulsify soil.
5.20 POST•CONSUMER — Material that has served its end•use at the consumer level, has been discarded by the consumer, and unless diverted, would enter the waste stream
5.21 PROPELLANTS – Compressed gases or vapours in a container which. upon release of pressure and expansion through a valve, carry another substance from the container. Typical propellants are carbon dioxide, propane. butane, and isobutane
5.2iA PROTECTORANT — A product designed to improve the stain and soil resistance of rugs. carpeting, and the interior of motor vehicles and.or on household furniture or objects upholstered or covernd with fabrics such as wool, cotton, nylon or other synthetic fabrics.
5.22 READILY BIODEGRADABLE — For a component, is determined using any of the six test methods described in OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 301A-301F: for a whole formulation, is determined using one of the methods described in OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals. provided that all measurements and calculations are based on the carbon content of the mixture and its degradation. i.e. dissolved organic carbon I DOC) removal (301A or 301E), CO2 evolution (3018) or oxygen consumption in the presence of an inhibitor of nitrogen metabolism f3OtC, 301D. 3OlFl.
5 23 RESOILING — The appearance of soil on a recently cleaned carpet. One potential cause of quick resoiláng is inadequate removal of residue from the cleaning solution
5.24 SAFE DRINKING WATER AND TOXIC ENFORCEMENT ACT OF 1986 (PROPOSITION 65) –
An annually updated list of chemicals that are known to the State of California to cause reproductive or developmental toxicity
5.25 SOLVENT – A general term for a diverse range of liquid substances with dissolve other materials.
6.4 The carpet and upholstery care product shall be accompanied by warnings that asthmatics and other “chembcally sensitive’ ind, viduals should avoid recently cleaned areas for a period of at least 24 hours. It is suggested that when complying with this criterion. manufacturers stress that all carpet cleaning products introduce substances to the indoor environment and the certified product has comparatively reduced risk.
Exception: Manufacturers are exempt from this labehng requirement ii they have performed a toxicology assessment that demonstrates the product has an acceptable hazard profile for asthmatics and chemically sensitive individuals, instructions for preparation of the toxicological assessment are found in the Procedure for Preparation of a Toxicological Assessment. UL p 113.
6.5 The carpet and upholstery caro poduct shall be accompanied:
a) With instructions advising a thorough vacuuming of the carpet aller it dries to remove any
potential residue remaining from the cleaner fprotectorants are exempt from this labeling requirement);
b) By detailed instructions on safe use and handling procedures:
C) With indications for proper waste disposal of product: and
d) With instructions on the recyclabilily of the container and-or packaging materials.
6.6 The carpet and upholstery care Product shall not be packaged in chlorinated plastic materials.
6.7 The manufacturer shall have made efloris to ensure that the carpet and upholstery care products are packaged with post-consumer recycled content.

6.9 The carpet and upholstery care Product shall not be sold in a disposable wipe format.
6.10 Closed loop dispensing systems currently available in the market have automatic dilutionrnetering system controlling the dilution rates. Such dispensing systems can handle very concentrated Products but still meet the requirements of the criteria after dilution at the recommended rate. Hence, for concentrated products. not meeting the toxicity requirements but sold in a closed ioop dispensing systems, shall meet the following criteria.
