16.3 Run-off and release test
16.3.1 At the completion of the water retention test and with the mainium service pressure maintained, the fire hose is to be run off free of the SHSD by one operator to its full length in the direction considered most severe. The hose shall run off without kinking, binding, or tangling.
16.3.2 Next, with all of the fire hose except for the last fold run off the SHSD and with the maximum service pessure maintained, the force necessary to release the last fold Is to be determined by attaching a spring scale to the end of the fire hose and applying a straight horizontal pull. The SHSD, fire hose, nozzle, and spnng scale are to extend in the same direction. The water retaining device shall be released from the standpipe end of the hose with a force not exceeding 25 pounds (111.2 N), applied at the nozzle for not more than three pulls. The retaining device shall not show evidence of wear.
16.4 Secureness test
16.4.1 The means provided to secure the nozzle when the nozzle is not in use shall not allow the nozzle to fall free when the nozzle Is subected to a vertical static load equal to twice the weight of the nozzle.
16.5 Rough usage test
16.5.1 An SHSD shall withstand a static test load of 150 pounds-mass (68 kg) without separation or distortion of its supporting means, the device, or the interconnecting piping.
16.5.2 An SHSD mounted in its intended manner and with the device swung out to the position considered most severe with respect to maintaining support is to be subjected to a static load of 150 pounds-mass (68 kg) applied for 5 minutes vertically downward at the furthest extremity of the device. Following application of the load, the SHSD is to be examined for compliance with the requirements W
16.5.1.
17 Accelerated Air-Oven Aging Test
17.1 An SHSD and its related fire hose shall comply with the Operational Tests, Section 16, after accelerated aIr oven aging.
17.2 Four samples of the SHSO and its related fire hose are to be aged in an air oven. Two assemblies are to be aged for 90 days and two assemblies are to be aged for 180 days. The temperature of the air oven in all cases is to be 150’F (66C). After each of the aging periods the assemblies shall be subjected to the Operational Tests. Section 16.
PACKING FOR SHIPMENT 18 General
18.1 Each SHSD shalt be packaged with all its component parts and complete installation instructions; for this requirement, a hose is not considered a component part if the SHSD is marked in accordance with 20.1(e).
18.2 Il the SHSD is shipped with the hose with which it is intended to be used, the fire hose shall be folded or rolled and bed. See 20.3.
MANUFACTURING AND PRODUCTION TESTS
19 General
19.1 The manufacturer shall provide the necessary production control, inspection, and tests. The program shall include at least the test in 192.
19.2 Each SHSD having pressure retaining components, other than a hose and nozzle, shall be sub1ected to a I minute hydrostatic pressure test applied to the inlet of the device at twice the rated service pressure.
MARKING
20 General
20.1 An SHSD shall be marked with the following:
a) The manufacturer’s or private labeler’s name or identitying symbol;
b) A distinctive type or model designation;
C) The operating instructions for the device:
d) The maximum rated service pressure of the device: and
e) An SHSD that Is shipped without its associated hose shall be marked with the following or equivalent marking: “This Device Is To Be Equipped With The Following Fire Hose: . “If the SHSD is acceptable for use with more than one tire hose, the SHSD shall be marked with the hose manuiacturer’s name and model designation of each hose with which it is acceptable for use.
