3 Components
3.1 Except as indicated in 3.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall comply with the
requirements for that component.
3.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:
a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component In the product covered by this standard, or
b) Is superseded by a requirement in this standard.
3.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions of
3.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.
4 UnIts of Measurement
4.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory or
approximate information.
5 Undated References
5.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing In the requirements of Ibis standard shall be
interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.

9 Supply Connections
9.1 Cord-and-plug connected
9.1.1 For cord-and-plug connected trace heating. the cold leads shall be Type Si or heavier flexible cord with appropnate voltage, temperature, and environmental ratings, and teffninated by a grounding type attachment plug. The trace heating shall be rated 16 ampere maximum, for use on a 20•ampere maximum branch circuit.
9.1.2 An anachnient plug shall be the grounding type and shall have a voltage rating equal to the rated voltage of the trace heating , and a current rating not less than 125 percent of the current rating of the trace heating.
9.1.3 An attachment plug shall comply with the Standard for Attachment Plugs and Receptacles, UL 498, for the intended application.
9.2 Permanently connected
9.21 Trace heating intended for connection to a permanent wiring system shall be provided with field’wiring leads and means for the connection to the power supply. The free length of the leads inside an outlet box or wiring compartment shall be at least 150 mm (6 inches).
9.2.2 The field’wiring leads shall have a current rating not less than the current rating of the trace heating.
10 Accessory Equipment
10.1 Accessory equipment provided as part of trace heating, such as thermostats, timers, sensors, fittings, switches, splice kits, and the like, shall comply with applicable requirements for the type of equipment involved.
PERFORMANCE
11 General
11.1 Trace heating intended for commercial applications shall comply with the general product testing specified in IEEE 515.1. Standard for the Testing, Desagn, Installation, and Maintenance of Electrical Resistance Trace Heating for Commercial Applications, and Temperature Test, Section 12.
Exception: Trace heating that has been found to comply with the respective requirements as part of a separate investigation is not required to be subjected to the tests for performance after thermal aging, water resistance. deformation, cold bend, and UV and condensation in IEEE 515.1.
